Hotels

So far, the main thing St. Kitts lacks is a great hotel on the beach.

Your best bet is a vacation rental. Make sure you either stay in Frigate Bay, Turtle Beach, or anywhere else on the South side of the island. Please post your own hotel and vacation rental recommendations (and warnings) in the comments section below.

Marriott: It's basically the only game in town, but don't stay here. It's sprawling, sterile, and mostly hideous. Locals assume everyone is staying here--and feel sorry for them.

Ottley and Rawlins Plantations: Both are beautiful, with Ottley boasting a little more old-world charm than Rawlins. They're worth staying at for two nights of your trip, but no more.

Timothy Beach: You couldn't ask for a better location than this. It's right on the beach, in the middle of the action. It's where I would recommend spending part of each trip. However, the rooms are simple, spartan, and a little worse-for-the-wear. If luxurious, charming, or immaculate rooms are requirements for your stay, then look elsewhere.

Nevis: I've never stayed on Nevis, though the Nisbet Plantation has been highly ranked. The Four Seasons hotel on the beach recently reopened after being closed for several years due to hurricane damage and business wranglings, but it's gotten mixed reviews.
